A sound engineer who learned to build businesses.
Malay Vadalkar is a creative entrepreneur based in Thane, India, and the founder of Caliac Studios. He trained in film and television at FLAME University and in sound recording and design at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, then spent years on film sets, in studios and on stage before turning that craft toward business.
Today he works across brand positioning, content and video, marketing, websites, CRM, automation and AI-integrated workflows — and still plays bass with Easy Wanderlings, the independent band he helped start in 2015.
The path
How the work came together
1988–2006
Sound before it was a career
Born in Dhule, Maharashtra. DJing by the eighth standard, and dismantling the family music system to understand speaker drivers and acoustics soon after.
2007–2011
FLAME University
A BBA in Film and Television with a minor in Advertising and Branding. An early film looked right and sounded wrong — and sent him toward the half of filmmaking audiences feel but rarely name.
2012–2016
Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute
Postgraduate training in Sound Recording and Design: sync sound, editing, Foley, dialogue, ADR, sound design, stereo and 5.1 mixing — and diagnostic listening.
2014–2018
Film sound, studios and teaching
Location recording, sound editing, design and mixing across films and independent music. Credits include Khatiya Ki Rassi and The Other Love Story. Faculty at Gray Spark Audio in Pune.
2015–present
Easy Wanderlings
A home-recording project with Sanyanth Naroth that grew into an eight-member collective, a decade of releases, national festivals and international touring.
2019–present
Caliac Studios
Founded as a production house; expanded into strategy, founder-led content, campaigns, distribution, websites, funnels, CRM, automation and AI-enabled workflows.
2025–2026
Growth education and systems
Performance and Growth Marketing at IIM Kozhikode, alongside practical work with AI, no-code tools, dashboards, knowledge systems and internal apps.
